SG Style Electric Guitar
Another of our best selling electric guitars is the SG available in both right and left hand models, SG style electric guitars are made by many different manufacturers, but all are based on the original which was invented by Gibson.
In 1958 to improve sales Gibson gave the famous Les Paul electric guitar a thinner, flattened top mahogany body, and a double cutaway which made the upper frets more accessible, they also moved the neck joint three frets to give greater access to the top frets.
Gibson were able to slightly lower Production costs due to the simpler made body construction.
The new version of the Les Paul was advertised as having the "fastest neck in the world" due to its smaller neck shape. The new shape guitar was immediately a success and sales were good.
However it is said that Les Paul himself did not like the new design and asked Gibson to remove his name from the new shape electric guitar.
The Gibson company honored Les Paul's request, and renamed the new model the SG, which basically stood for Solid Guitar. The rest as they say is history as another popular guitar was born.
We normally have in stock a range of SG style electric guitars, nicely built, set up and available in a choice of body colours.
